The Torch Celebrates its New Home
Welcome to theTorchJFK.com, our new website! In following our district-wide mission to embrace technology, John F. Kennedy’s school newspaper joined the World Wide Web this September, 2017. With unlimited space and our new enticing appearance, we hope that the way we present the news is just as good as the news itself. We hope that you visit this page often!

I was an English teacher at John F. Kennedy Memorial High School from September 1985 until I retired in February, 2010. When I arrived at Kennedy there was no Torch, no newspaper, no news letter, no real communication between students and faculty. As a relatively new teacher I needed to find an extra curricular activity to latch on to. Thanks to an accommodating fellow teacher, Mr. Frank Brady, another willing teacher, Mrs. Murna Tyrrell, and three eager freshmen we brought back The Torch which had been dormant for several years. I am writing this very long “biography” to let you know that we started with one computer, lots of confusion and many long hours, before we produced our first issue. It wasn’t perfect but to us it was beautiful! For thirteen years I was The Torch’s advisor.
I want to congratulate you, your staff, your advisor(s) and all who are associated with the paper. From a small idea to larger dream to a the World Wide Web is quite an accomplishment. I am so pride to have been part of its past and hopefully a part of its continued future. Thank you
