The Torch

Shurupa Mazumder is a senior at John F. Kennedy Memorial High School and a first-year contributor to The Torch. She is currently 17 years old and was born on Feb. 28. She has lived in New Jersey her whole life; however, her parents are from Bangladesh and settled in Japan before moving to the United States. Her multicultural background has contributed to her love of music in several different genres, ranging from alternative pop, rap, and k-pop. In her free time, Shurupa also enjoys creating modern calligraphy and watching television dramas, such as “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit,” "Vagabond," and "Cable Girls."
At school, Shurupa is involved in both National and Science Honor Society, Model UN and is the Vice President of Human Rights International. This summer, Shurupa interned at the office for the New Jersey Speaker of the House. Her favorite subject is politics and she plans to pursue a career in the field after attending law school.
