Behind the Scenes of ‘Excuse the Interruption’
How is JFK’s talk show made?
Season four of JFKMHS’s monthly talk show is nearing its finale. After a great debut for Mr. McFadden, a plethora of new segments and a brand new studio, there’s no doubt that season four will go down in JFKMHSTV history.
“Excuse the Interruption” starring Mr. Bergondo and Mr. McFadden, is produced by Mrs. Rotella. The show is directed by Mrs. Acuna-Francisco, and edited by Ryan Sadowski. The student production team comprises Tanmay Pawar, Laila Mohamad, Katelyn Figueiredo, and Ryan Sadowski.
Writing/Preproduction
The planning process comes from all around the school. Any current events or happenings in school life are under the observation of the Excuse the Interruption team. The majority of the preproduction process is collecting ideas. The draft for the episode’s script is posted in the ETI Google Classroom along with a predicted film date/time. The ETI production team is constantly updating the draft until it is perfected. Mrs. Rotella, the show’s producer, primarily takes care of the script, with input from Mr. Bergondo and Mr. McFadden.
Filming
The “Stable” is JFK’s new film studio; room 132 ¾ is where the magic happens.
The first step in the filming process is set assembly. Before the shoot, the team, specifically Tanmay Pawar, sets up the lighting, camera and set design. The script is displayed on a 50-inch TV for the anchors and guests to follow.
The actual filming process is fairly simple. Mr. Bergondo and Mr. McFadden read off their first few scenes, then the interviews follow. Filming usually takes the span of a block, give or take depending on the length/complexity of the segments.
The whole environment is very friendly and welcoming. The show used to pick classes to film in to have a live audience watching, but the new studio creates a more family-like atmosphere. Everybody is integral to the ETI process, and everybody’s personalities merge to create an amazing experience.
Editing/Post-production
As soon as filming wraps, the post-production phase immediately begins. Typically, this stage takes around 3 days. The editor, Ryan Sadowski, trims the footage, adds the visuals/special effects, and gives the final ETI touch to the video, all with input from the production team. The finished video gets put on a flash drive, and uploaded to the JFKMHSTV youtube channel.
