Recap of the First Three Picks of the 2023 NFL Draft
The NFL draft is where all 32 teams draft college football players. In the NFL draft, you can trade up for players and if you are lucky, you can be picked for the first overall pick. This year’s first overall pick was the Carolina Panthers. All three of the projected first-round picks are quarterbacks coming from Alabama, Ohio State, and Florida.
But on April 27, 2023, the first pick was announced at 8 p.m. Players waited all day, praying that they would be selected. When 8 p.m. rolled around, the announcement was made, “With the first pick in the 2023 NFL draft, the Carolina Panthers select Bryce Young.”
Everyone went ecstatic as Young walked up to the stage. Young had a stellar career at Alabama.
Playing 36 games, he had 8,356 passing yards, 80 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He puts on his Panthers hat while holding up a Panthers jersey with Roger Goodell’s hand to take a picture.
After Young walked off the stage, Roger Goodell announced “Texans are now on the clock,” to initiate that Texas then had 10 minutes to make the next selection.
After five minutes of deciding who to pick, the Texans finally decided to pick another quarterback out of Ohio State: CJ Stroud.
Stroud finished his college career with 8,123 passing yards, 85 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. After losing in the college football semi-finals, everyone would like to see how he bounces back in the NFL.
The Houston Texans also had the third pick. The audience went silent until Roger Goodell announced, “With the third pick in the NFL draft, the Houston Texans select: Will Anderson, defensive edge from Alabama University.” The crowd went crazy as many were surprised with the pick.
Anderson had an amazing college career stacking up 114 solo tackles, 90 assisted tackles, 204 total tackles, and 58.5 tackles for loss. The first three selections were great and have very bright futures in the NFL.
