On April 6, Nathaniel Richemond, senior middle blocker for the boys volleyball team, broke the school record for the highest number of blocks in a game with 16 blocks, against McNair High School.
This is only Richemond’s second year playing high school volleyball. As of May 7, Richemond has a total of 43 blocks and only strives to get better.
“I am gonna try my best, play my hardest, but I don’t know if I am going to be able to get 16 again,” Richemond states while adding that he has to work on “transitioning for quick attacks, getting up quicker to block and learning to pick a spot when hitting down on the court.”
Richemond’s record was recognized by both the coach and players of the boys volleyball team, but he still strives to improve.
“Honestly it is scary because there is more pressure on me to do better, but it does feel good, though, to have that record,” Richemond explains. “To be in a room with other volleyball players, and having that over their heads [reputation of being a record holder] is kinda cool.”
The boy’s volleyball team has reached the halfway mark of their 2024 season with a record 10-11.
Instead of continuing his volleyball career, Richemond plans on focusing on being a rock artist. He credits the music he listens to for inspiring him to play the guitar. Richemond plans on taking more music courses in college in hopes of becoming an even better musician.
