Mariella Rodriguez is currently a senior at John F. Kennedy Memorial High School. I spoke with Mariella about her high school experience, her plans for the future and her everyday life.
What is your fondest memory of your time at JFKMHS?
Mariella: Being involved in Octoberfest with all of the cheerleaders is probably my fondest memory. It was nice to see all of the Halloween spirit and fun being fostered at the event.
What college will you be attending in the fall and why?
I will be attending the Drexel University College of Computing and Informatics. I am going to be majoring in cyber security at Drexel because it is one of the only universities in the country that offers cybersecurity as an undergraduate major.
What are you looking forward to in college?
I’m looking forward to meeting new people and being on the Drexel cheer team. I’m excited to cheer during the basketball games because Drexel basketball is Division I and a part of the Philadelphia Big 5.
What are three items that you think are essential to bring to college?
My favorite book “Everything, Everything” by Nicola Yoon. My skincare definitely because it helps me relax. I would also bring my limited edition set of all of the “Twilight” movies.
Where do you see yourself in 20 years?
Hopefully, I am a cheer coach at a good gym. Maybe I will work for the New Jersey government in their cyber security department.
What are your summer plans?
Mariella: I will be working with the National Cheerleaders Association to teach children across America [about] cheerleading.
What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?
My favorite thing to do in my free time is probably relaxing at home and reading a good book.
If someone were to visit Woodbridge, where would you take them?
I would take them to my house because I have a pool and I always have good food.
