Ajayveer Singh aka Ajay is a hard-working, bright and quick-witted senior at John F. Kennedy Memorial High School. Throughout his four years of high-school, Ajayveer constantly challenged himself, taking on several AP and college level classes. Ajay was involved in many extracurricular activities outside of JFK, one of which was a Bhangra class. Towering high over most students, he is known for his well groomed beard. Everyday Ajayveer strives to reach his potential and has the confidence to know that one day, he will reach his wanted destination. After high school, Ajay will be attending NJIT.
How’d you get through all these years, despite the workload and stress?
Ajay: Well, firstly, I’ve had a lot of help from my mom. She’s helped me a lot. She’s helped me get through everything and take some load off me like doing my chores. And also the fact that I’ve done a lot to manage my time and get things [school assignments] done early, and keep track of stuff. I’ve done a great job of that, so it really helps.
Did you encounter any hard times along the way, and what did you do to overcome them?
I would say many hard times are just, like, academic rigor. It wasn’t that rigorous, but then there were some classes that really got me, and then I ended up having to go through that extra mile.
Do you have any advice for incoming freshmen?
Take your sleep seriously. You need to focus, train, and retain information, so take that very seriously. Maintain that sleep schedule.
If you could tell your freshman self one thing, what would it be?
Take your sleep seriously. I didn’t take my sleep very seriously. I lost a lot of sleep. I fooled around quite a bit, and I regret it.
Do you still dwell on your mistakes and things you could have done in school but did not?
Yeah, some things, I feel like I could have shined myself a little more academically. I didn’t have enough self confidence, and my friends kept telling me that I should take more rigorous classes, like AP.
What was your toughest challenge you faced in school?
I guess the toughest challenge is keeping up my GPA. That was one of the things I focused on the most, and I went through a lot of sleepless nights just to do that.
Who is your role model and why?
I would say the YouTuber, Markiplier. He’s a phenomenal man. He has an insane work ethic. He has accomplished a lot of things, many different projects, and he’s also just a really great guy. His ability to bring comfort to people and make them laugh with his content really inspires me.
