Diya S. Patel is a senior at JFKMHS. She plans on pursuing her bachelor’s at Rutgers University and also plans on pursuing a doctorate.
What were the most memorable activities you did in JFK?
My most memorable would be the gift auctions I volunteered in every year, and it’s really fun because I think it’s really cool to see the elderly people get so happy when they win their little prizes.
So what were your least favorite experiences?
I don’t know… for the most part, It would be freshman year because it was online, even though I got good grades!
Is there anything you would want to change about your high school experience?
I would tell myself to speak up and not be so nice, and to ‘stand up for yourself.’
What do you think is the hardest part of high school?
Waking up every morning because I’m not a morning person.
What college are you going to and how do you feel about it?
I’m going to Rutgers, New Brunswick! I’m sort of excited but a little bit scared because I don’t really know what I’m doing, but at the same time, I’m really excited to leave high school.
So how do you feel about graduation?
It’s a bit bittersweet because I don’t want to leave, but at the same time, I want to get out of here.
Where do you see yourself in four years?
Rich. Getting a job, graduated from college, and hopefully starting to get my doctorate.
What advice would you give your freshman-year self?
Oh, that I sorta halfway answered, but another thing I would tell myself is that it doesn’t really matter. Grades don’t really matter, school doesn’t really matter—I mean it does—but it’s not that deep you know. It’s never that deep.
Do you have any advice for upcoming seniors?
I would tell them to have fun, go to school events and participate in activities.
