Jahnya Bocanegra, a senior at John F. Kennedy Memorial High School, has left a major impact on her high school peers. Graduating with the class of 2024, Jahnya is leaving high school with a selfless persona that seeks to improve the lives of those around her.
Being an instrumentalist, Jahnya enjoys listening to music and playing bass. With her talents, she has done quite a lot for her school, including playing bass for Guitar Club as a junior, and involving herself in Chinese Honor Society in her senior year. She also takes part in other hobbies such as making jewelry, going shopping and doing makeup.
An active participant in the community, Jahnya will be truly missed at JFK.
Her Time at JFK
Jahnya was just trying to get through her four years of high school. She feels as though she hasn’t truly made her mark yet. Despite this, her performance on bass for Guitar Club during her junior year was a big step towards becoming the person she wanted to be. She was able to overcome her anxiety and stage fright while bringing a performance to JFK that will definitely be remembered.
When thinking about her experience at JFK, Jahnya feels as though she will miss the routine. The daily schedule requires her to meet a certain amount of tasks each day, but college won’t be in any way like that. Even with this in mind, Jahnya plans on focusing on her studies, making friends and great memories.
Future Plans
Stepping into college, Jahnya plans to start in New Jersey, but eventually venture out into the rest of the world. Jahnya plans on studying to become a teacher, where she will focus on the educational fields of English, languages, and elementary education.
“I’m tired of being a student, and I want it to be the opposite way, ” Jahnya states.
Takeaway
Jahnya is ready to dominate wherever she goes next in life after having a challenging, but unique and influential experience at John F. Kennedy Memorial. Despite uncertainty of the future, there’s a lot of excitement towards the next years of her life. As she starts a new chapter, Jahnya leaves a little piece of advice for incoming freshmen just starting their high school career.
“I know it’s so cliché, but, honestly, don’t care what people think about you,” Jahnya explains. “There are many other important things to worry about.”
Jahnya simply seeks to make her environment a healthier and more positive place for everyone, along with becoming a more confident individual.
“Honestly, I just hope to leave this world a little better than when I found it,” Jahnya states. “Whether it’s helping other people, and taking care of my family, it’s my main goal.”
