We have had phenomenal student-athletes here at JFKMHS, and Marialys Ricourt is one of those students. Ricourt transferred from Perth Amboy High School her sophomore year and has become an amazing student and an inspiring athlete to watch on the field, helping her team out whenever they need her.
How has your senior year been?
Marialys: It’s been very exciting, lots of new memories. I’ve met a lot of new people, made new friends and then preparing for college, getting all the knowledge I need to know before I leave.
What is your favorite softball memory?
My favorite softball memory is a recent one, my one hundredth hit. It’s a major milestone for any softball player in high school and I’m just happy I accomplished it with the team.
How have you grown since your freshman year?
I’ve matured a lot. I’ve learned how to pick my friends, I learned how to love who I am…I just feel like I am very wise now. I don’t make any rash decisions anymore, and I think before I act.
What life lessons has being a senior taught you?
It’s taught me to slow down because I used to be excited to leave and go to college. Now, as it’s coming to an end, I’m just trying to slow it down and live in the moment, and have fun right now.
What is your college major?
I am a biology major on a pre-med track.
Are you going to continue playing softball in college?
Yes, I will be playing softball at Montclair State University.
What is some helpful advice you’d give to the incoming freshman next year?
Enjoy the moment and take school seriously, but also have fun. Study hard, but learn how to balance life. Be able to enjoy high school because it’s over before you know it.
What has been your favorite memory here at JFK?
Definitely last year’s prom. I was a junior going to prom and I had the time of my life. I don’t think I sat down once that night.
What is something you would categorize as a memorable high school accomplishment?
When I was voted All-White Division and All GMC’s for softball last year as a junior. It is a big achievement, and then having all of these coaches from different schools be able to vote for me and vote that I am a good enough player.
What will you miss the most about high school?
I will definitely miss my underclassmen, all my freshies, my sophomores, and juniors. I’ve formed great relationships with then and have great memories. It’s something I hope I will never forget.
