Jeremy Fishman is currently a senior at JFKMHS. Baseball player and aspiring journalist, he heads off to the University of Tampa this fall.
Jeremy’s High School Years
Jeremy stated that senior year has been his favorite year of high school. His very light schedule enabled him to have the most fun. However, opposite to this was his freshman year.
“… since I was stuck inside, all of school might’ve been easier, ultimately it’s like I wanna have human interaction,” Fishman said. “I couldn’t get that while sitting on a Zoom call.”
The 2020 pandemic limited Jeremy’s social interactions. He grew to appreciate the routine of JFKMHS once things went back to normal after COVID.
“It’s something you kinda do everyday, and it’s gonna be weird not doing that [being in high school]…” Jeremy said.
His Future
Fishman is motivated by the fact that he has a great future ahead of himself. He has interviewed pro athletes and has been featured on podcasts. He is going to the University of Tampa to major in journalism.
“Yeah, being at JFK, [makes me] realize I wanna get out of [New] Jersey,” Jeremy states. “I’ve never really felt connected here at JFK, and that could go back from being younger, but I stuck it out and I guess I’m glad I’ve did. I learned a lot from it, but it also made me realize I wanna explore in life, and part of the reason I’m going so far for college.”
He has also said that he wanted to go to a college in a big city, and climate plays a part in this.
“… I want to be warm, I can’t stand the cold, so, Tampa has caught my interest when I saw it online, and then I went there for a visit back in September and fell in love with the campus,” Jeremy remarked. “It’s right on a river, right in the heart of the city, and then, I went back in March for ‘accepted students day’ and it confirmed everything, that I wanted to be there.”
Jeremy wishes to showcase his personality in journalism.
“I wanna hang around professional athletes, I definitely want to go into sports, it’s not a question, I know I’ve wanted to do it since I was a little kid, so I guess hopefully out of college I’ll have a job, reporting with a pro team,” Fishman remarked. “I have a lot of connections down in Florida, and then maybe end goal would probably be owning my own media company, especially with social media now. It’s a lot easier than it used to be, you can have companies that are competing with ESPN and Barstool and things like that. I think I can be right up there with them.”
Individuality
Jeremy prides himself on being an individual.
“Don’t care what anyone else says,” Jeremy states. “I’ve kinda lived my life in a way where I’ve had a lot of people think a lot of different things about me, and ultimately I know those people don’t matter to me. They’re not gonna be in my life forever, I know who I am, and that’s all that matters.”
He has also said that incoming freshmen have to define their own experience at JFK.
“Your high school, your four years, and you’re gone, and I know this is very cliché but it does go fast,” Fishman remarks. “My freshman year was COVID, and that year felt like forever, but I look back now and can’t believe it’s over, so, be you, don’t worry about what anyone else has to think. You’re not gonna see these people very much longer after high school… make it yours.”
