Drake and PartyNextDoor have joined forces once again, releasing “$ome $exy $ong 4 U”,on Feb. 14, a 21-track album blending R&B, hip-hop and pop. Both artists have had success on past albums together like “PartyNextDoor Two” and “PartyNextDoor 3.”
Even though Drake and PartyNextDoor have made a total of 92 songs together, this album marks their first full-length collaboration and aims to bring back the chemistry from their earlier music.
The album showcases PartyNextDoor’s signature smooth vocals and atmospheric production alongside Drake’s reflective lyricism. The duo, known for hits like “Come and See Me” and “Recognize”, showcase blends of R&B and hip-hop to explore themes of love, relationship and self-reflection.
Lyrics & Songwriting
One of the album’s standout tracks, “Gimme A Hug” takes an unexpected turn, addressing Drake’s ongoing beef with Kendrick Lamar.
With lines like, “Drake elimination, fake intimidation,” Drake expresses that he knows other rappers want him “eliminated,” and that they use him to promote their own music.
Another notable track includes, “Nokia”, which sets itself apart with its unique production and high-energy delivery. There is also “CN Tower” which pays a tribute to Toronto’s landmark, and symbolizes the artist’s connection to their hometown.
In the track “Deeper,” PartyNextDoor discusses commitment, while expressing the willingness to invest fully in a relationship, and aims to be his partner’s favorite.
Review
While “$ome $exy $ongs 4 U” shows us moments of emotional depth, it doesn’t quite maintain the originality and impact of their previous collaborations. Some of the tracks feel uninspired, lacking the creativity that made their past work stand out.
Despite these inconsistencies, the album offers nostalgia for longtime fans of Drake and PartyNextDoor. Although the album has some great moments, it doesn’t quite match the greatness of their previous work together.
In the end, “$ome $exy $ongs 4 U” is a decent addition to their collection, but it probably won’t have the lasting effect that fans were expecting.
