Honey Gallegos

Honey Holiday Lee Gallegos, a John F. Kennedy Memorial High School junior, sets the fastest time in the 55-meter dash since the 2021 winter season at The Rothman Orthopedics Sports Complex, a.k.a. The Bubble, N.J. 

Gallegos ran a time of 8.03 seconds, the fastest someone has sprinted for the girls division 55-meter dash since the 2021 season. The previous record was set by Lylla Fawaz at 8:33. 

“What motivates me to become better in my sport, is for my team, for me, and for my coach,” Gallegos states.

She has been running track since elementary school, and in high school, she started doing events such as the 100-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and long jump. 

“I see myself having a better time [than when I started] this spring season,” Gallegos says. “A co-captain that people can come to whenever they need help and someone my coach can rely on.” 

Gallegos recently joined the winter season in her junior year and has made varsity every season since her freshman year. She has received awards such as the “Most Improved Athlete” and a bronze medal in a relay race in the 2024 spring track season. 

Gallegos has worked hard to get to the place she is today with endless practice and determination, improving from freshman year to now.

 “[The way] track impacted me and my life, is for my mental health,” Gallegos claims. “Track is all about physical and mental health, so track gave me comfort and something to look up to. I think every other determined athlete can agree with me.”
