Woodbridge Township School District is installing metal detectors in all three high schools on April 10, 2025. The superintendent decided to install the metal detectors due to recent security concerns.
Dr. Massimino, Superintendent of Woodbridge Township schools, sent a letter out to all parents and guardians explaining the “immediate deploy” of metal detectors after a 17-year-old student was found with a ghost gun on March 18, 2025 at Woodbridge High School.
The incident caused serious concerns amongst parents and guardians, causing action from district officials. The original plan was to install the metal detectors for the 2025-2026 school year; however, officials decided to expedite the orders for the metal detectors.
At John. F. Kennedy Memorial High School, four walk-through metal detectors were installed; two at the main entrance and two at the cafeteria entrance.
Students are allowed to enter school at an earlier time due to the lengthy process of going through security. Students are now allowed to enter the school at 7:15 a.m. instead of the usual 7:40 a.m.
As predicted, the first day still saw some delays, with the last students on line finally entering the building at 8:50 a.m. On the second day, all students had entered the building by 8:20 a.m., cutting the time down by 30 minutes. Administration hopes that the process will become quicker in the upcoming days as students become more familiar with the procedure.
The district has not yet reported any additional incidents since the March 18 situation, but are still trying to treat the situation with seriousness, keeping safety in mind. Even though some students are complaining over the inconvenience, other students and faculty have expressed their opinions of seeing this as “a step in the right direction.”
Although many students may not agree with the new morning procedure, faculty and administrators believe it eventually will become routine with time.
