Taco Talk: The Top Taco Spots You May Not Know

We reviewed reviewed three local taco spots: TacoNazo in Colonia , and Fat Cactus and Tacoria, both of which are located in New Brunswick.

TacoNazo

TacoNazo, located on St. Georges Avenue, is a brand new taco-based restaurant. It is a franchise that started in Los Angeles and offers meals that range from $5 to $20.

With a variety of different types of styles, TacoNazo will make you feel like you are in the right place. This restaurant was the most local out of all three spots.

“I love this place just because of the service that they provide,” Lucas said. “I would definitely come back to this place.”

Tacoria

Tacoria, a small restaurant franchise founded in 2016 by entrepreneur Chuck Patel and three others, is best known for its Pollo Tinga Spicy taco meal. Tacoria has grown into a successful chain with more than 10 locations around the country.

The restaurant, which is often described as an underground taco spot, offers a vast variety of menu items. Prices differ from as low as $5 to $20 based on the selection of your choice. It was a top tier restaurant with excellent tacos and a well designed interior setting.

“Tacoria was my favorite out of all three spots,” junior Noah Matos states. “I really enjoyed the Polla Tinga Tacos. Everything was served quick and served to a table in the back of the restaurant, where they had a garden-themed setting.”

Fat Cactus

Fat Cactus, a popular sit-down restaurant, specializes in Mexican dishes such as tacos and burritos. With meals typically priced between $17 and $22, the restaurant offers a great dining option for a night out with the family.

After selecting items from a custom taco order sheet and waiting about 15 minutes, the meal proved to be worth it.

“I could taste each ingredient inside the taco with every bite,” junior Richie Trotman states. “Definitely going to be visiting again.”

Conclusion

Lucas felt Colonia’s Taco Nazo had the best tacos, while Valentina and Richie thought Fat Cactus had the best tacos. Noah’s favorite tacos were from Tacoria.

Overall, we were impressed by all three taco places and encourage everyone to try them out!

Noah Matos, a junior, is a new contributor for the JFK Torch. He chose to be in journalism because he heard the class was fun and wants to be a sports analyst when he grows up. He plays for the JFK soccer team and club team named FC Copa based out of Rutgers. He hopes to play soccer in college and major in sports analytics. His favorite hobbies are soccer, hanging out with friends, skiing, watching sports, and hanging out with family. He is currently in two clubs in school, the ambassadors of Christ and investment club. When he is older he wants to move to Florida and work for a sports team.

Lucas Monteiro

Lucas Monteiro is a 16-year-old contributor that goes to John F Kennedy Memorial High School and is in his first year of journalism. Lucas is a junior looking forward to being a sports announcer. He is in journalism because he wants to be an announcer for sports games that he is interested in. Lucas loves to wrestle and play soccer for the school’s team. He likes to go out with his friends on weekends and to have fun. He reads books, listens to all different music genres, and he loves to be nice to everyone. Ever since he was a kid, he loved WWE.

Valentina Kotsakis

Valentina is a junior who will be graduating in 2026 and is currently a contributor to the JFK Torch. This is her first year in journalism and she’s looking forward to the course. She’s been on the varsity soccer team since freshmen year and plans to play her last season next year. Her favorite season is summer because she loves the beach and staying out late. Valentina is the manager of the girls basketball team and the baseball team. She enjoys spending time with her friends and going out. After high school, she wants to go away to college and major in something in the technology field.

Richard Trotman

Richard Trotman is a junior who attends John F. Kennedy Memorial High School. This is his first year taking a journalism class and contributing to The Torch. He has a very foolish personality around his family and close friends. Since his sophomore year, he has been the starting quarterback for the football team. Outside of football, he plays basketball in the winter and is a member of the BSU and heros and cool kids. One of his favorite hobbies is working on his truck, playing video games and taking his dog on walks after school. His future plans are to stay in state and play football in college.
