Krisha Patel is currently a senior at JFK Memorial High School. Krisha and I conversed about her journey through grade school and her goals for afterwards, and additionally about what advice she would give to income freshmen. Krisha moved from London, England, to Iselin, New Jersey, in the seventh grade. Throughout her high school years, Krisha participated in Sideline Cheer, Ping Pong Club, Fashion Show, Lip Sync Battle, and she was also a manager for Dance Exchange. After high school, she aspires to pursue Business Analytics and Marketing at Kean University to eventually become a business analyst.
You came to the U.S. in middle school; what were some of the biggest adjustments or differences you experienced?
Krisha: I think one of the hardest [adjustments] was the middle school because everything just worked so differently, and I had to make new friends, and I didn’t know anyone in the school.
Was the school structure the same or different?
We didn’t have any lockers in London… and the scheduling.. is really different; you have six different classes.
What has been the most memorable moment in your high school experience? Why?
My favorite moment was my sophomore year’s Oktoberfest because I enjoyed spending time with everyone and running the stands for cheerleading.
Is there anything you would change about your experience at JFK?
Yes, I would get involved more.
What clubs would you have joined?
I would’ve joined Future Business Leaders and Black Student Union.
What upcoming senior activities or events are you most excited about?
I am very excited for tomorrow’s trip at the camp; I’m excited to do a bunch of different activities. I’m also excited for prom so I can get ready and doll up…
What did you want to be when you were young, and how has that changed now that you have grown up?
I wanted to be a model and a fashion designer, but now I want to do something in business. But the fashion and business industries are kind of similar, so it has changed, but not to a completely different field.
Where do you see yourself in ten years?
I see myself with a big job, possibly finding the love of my life, and settling down in a big house.
What advice would you give to an incoming freshman attending JFK?
Don’t forget your headphones at home, and don’t procrastinate.
