
Marcus Bullock is a student athlete at JFK. His leadership and determination are shown on and off the court. Throughout his four year high school career, he has persevered through multiple injuries and obstacles and still manages to set the bar high and be an exceptional role model to others.
What was the most challenging experience of your high school career?
Bullock: Junior year I had to have surgery on my knee, which caused me to miss out on that year of basketball. Then I unexpectedly tore the ACL in my other knee, which kept me back from playing senior year as well.
How has your outlook on your future changed since you were a freshman?
Freshmen year, I came into high school with my focus being on sports, but as I went down the road, things didn’t really go to plan, and unfortunately, I had to shift my focus to other things.
What was the most valuable takeaway from your high school career?
Being a team player and leader for my team, even when I couldn’t be out there providing for them.
What is something you love that isn’t a sport?
I would say my family and friends because I know I can always lean back on them when I need help or support.
How would you describe your recovery process the second time you tore your ACL?
I would say the second time was better for me mentally because I’ve been through that surgery before, and I kinda knew what to expect as far as recovery and that whole process.
What are your plans for the next four years of your life?
I plan on going to fire school and the academy to become a firefighter.

What influence has your family had on you, if any?
My family has always pushed me to be the best version of myself, whether it was sports or school, they always wanted me to be the best version that I could be.
What is something you’re looking forward to?
I would say graduating and spending the last summer with my friends before we all go our separate ways and down our own paths.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
My mom always told me never to give up on your dreams, no matter how much adversity you go through, just keep going, chasing your dreams.
