Karanjot Singh is currently a senior at John F. Kennedy Memorial High School. In this interview he spoke about his advice to incoming freshmen, his goals for the future and how he has grown in various aspects of his life during his time in high school. Singh was a member of various clubs like the Kennedy Cancer Society and wrestled in his sophomore year of high school. Outside of school, he is dedicated to going to the gym and to his job. After high school, Singh plans to go to Rutgers University where he will major in mechanical engineering.
How do you think wrestling had an impact on your high school experience?
Karanjot: …It made me more dedicated and motivated and it gave me a sense of discipline as well… so in my life like going to the gym, doing homework and studying for tests [wrestling] gave me a sense of discipline.
Is there a class that you did not take that you wish you did? Why?
I’d say Engineering three because I was supposed to but I didn’t because I thought it would be a harder class…[Engineering three] would have been even more fun because it has Ms. Finnis who is a good teacher.
What is your biggest academic or athletic achievement within the past four years?
Benching 265 [pounds at the gym].
What do you plan to major in and what made you choose this path?
I plan to major in mechanical engineering…because it is a great foundation for engineering and I do want to switch to aerospace engineering eventually…
What will you miss the most about high school?
I would miss how laid back and relaxed it is cause I feel like college is going to be more stressful…because it counts towards my career…
What learning experiences will you carry with you going into college?
Studying days before the test…because I feel like you need to prepare…especially before big exams.
What is the biggest piece of advice you would give to incoming freshmen?
Enjoy yourself and make sure to stay on top of your assignments because that does affect you later on…your GPA consists of your freshmen year as well and make sure to have fun…make sure to go [to school events]…
