I understand that you play video games. What game is your favorite and why?
My favorite video game ever is probably Dark Souls. It’s very challenging and the interconnected world, along with the thematic design, makes for a very compelling setting where I can really enjoy the mechanics of the game.
If you were to pick anyone in this school to be stranded on a deserted island with, who would it be and why?
Give me Mr. Farrell. I feel like he’s got some kind of survival knowledge because I know he can fish, so give me Farrell.
Have you had anyone to look up to who inspires you?
I guess…my dad.
What was your favorite class during your time at JFK, and why? All four years.
My favorite class of all time, graphic novels with Mr. Essig, because I had a great lineup of students, and Mr. Essig as a teacher. The material he taught was very very engaging, and I had it block one which normally is a really tough class, but he made it actually pleasing to come into school in the morning; I wanted to come into school.
What did you do in graphic novels? What graphic novels did you read?
The main ones that I remember we read, we read “Watchmen,” that was the big one. We also read “The Dark Knight Returns,” we read “Maus” and I think we read a few others, but they were a lot shorter.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
10 years? Probably with a full-time job, hopefully starting a family, or about to start a family, most likely working in a trade…I’ve been looking into working as an HVAC technician or as an electrician. You install, maintain and repair heating and cooling systems, so putting air vents into new houses, fixing air conditioners a lot, installing new air conditioners, making sure ventilation is up to code, installing ventilation into buildings or buildings that are being constructed.
So, there have been some moments at JFK where some pretty weird stuff has happened. For example, the squirrel during PSAT season, or that week or two when the school went back to remote learning. What was the most “infamous” moment during your time at JFK?
The most infamous individual moment had to be the squirrel, I know you already put that as an example, but the fact that the entire school electrical system blew out and all the lights went out during PSATs, and we had to retake them, and there was just a very crispy rodent outside in the parking lot…that’s something I’ll remember for the rest of my life.
You’ve been a member of JFK’s wrestling team before. How has that affected you and your life?
It’s made me a lot more disciplined, it’s given me a much better perspective on my own work ethic and it’s also made most things appear a lot easier because I have yet to encounter any physical task that was harder than wrestling for a team. [Joined because of] a recommendation from a friend, and just a lack of any involvement in extracurriculars because my life was pretty much work, school, work, school, so I was like, ‘I need to get something else in here to give me something to focus on that’s not just work or school, something that I actually enjoy.’
Have you done any other extracurricular activities besides wrestling?
Not really. I’ve checked out a few of the clubs, but I’ve never really attended past one or two meetings, they’ve just never held my interest.
What was the best school event in your opinion?
The best school event so far? I’d say probably the recent senior trip because I had a lot of fun with that. It was enjoyable for everybody, and it was a very nice break from the normal classes and stresses of being in school around this time. Most of my time was spent hanging out with friends, enjoying the swimming pool, as well as the paddle boats and the kayaking in the lake.
