Accomplished senior Ihaab Kashmiri plans to attend Rutgers University starting the fall of 2025 after four prosperous and lesson-filled years at JFK.
Ihaab’s Time at JFK
Ihaab’s time at JFK consists of a multitude of academics, community service efforts, and extracurriculars, all encapsulating her passions, interests, and preferences.
At JFK, she got the opportunity to participate in JFK’s Ramadan Iftaar dinner, the school’s musicals, namely “The Wizard of Oz,” “High School Musical,” and also performed at the Guitar Club’s concert as a senior.
Ihaab performed “Imagínate,” by Danny Ocean at the annual concert.
“Music is a really big part of me,” Ihaab states. “It was a lot of fun sharing it [the performance] with other people, having my friends come see it, being able to sing with one of my friends, and sing it in a language that I love too.”
Ihaab is also an active member of Student Council, Kennedy Cancer Society, and also wrote for the Torch throughout her high school career.
Academics
Ihaab shares that she especially enjoyed her time at JFK because of the environment, teachers and classes that aided her growth. Journalism is a class that she feels has pushed her further into her chosen career.
“I love writing,” Ihaab states. With journalism, I found something that connects with the things I care about.”
Lessons Learned
Even though high school is an era of exploration, it is also a place where you learn a considerable amount of lessons.
“I’m not saying you shouldn’t care about your academics and your extracurriculars… It’s okay to take it easy sometimes,” Ihaab advises. “The world doesn’t end. Don’t be too hard on yourself.”
And to upcoming seniors, Ihaab advises that senioritis might be hard, but it isn’t as hard as leaving behind friendships and stepping into adulthood. The best thing you can do is cherish your last moments with your friends and classmates.
As for the incoming freshmen, surrounding yourself with a good crowd fosters a lot more growth than you’d think.
Future Plans
Ihaab hopes that in 10 years, she’ll be content at whatever point in her life that she is at. She also hopes to travel the world, experience new cultures, and meet new people.
She admits that she’ll miss her friends deeply, and certainly, JFK will miss her too.
