The SATs, aka the Scholastic Aptitude Test, helps determine if you are college ready. The new SAT will be the first to be taken on the Chromebook for the class of 2025, where in the past it was taken on paper.

Regular registration is $60. If you receive free or reduced lunch, you can apply for the SAT’s with no cost at all.

Students can take the SAT on May 4, 2024 and June 1, 2024. The registration deadline is April 19, 2024 for the May 4 test, and May 16, 2024 for the  June 1 SAT.

The new SATs are taken on the BlueBook app, as opposed to the old format which was taken with a scan-tron booklet and pencil.

The test is 37 minutes for both English sections and both math sections. There are two sections for math, non-calculator and calculator. The sections can range from having 10 to 30 questions per section.

Junior, Lorelei Lorentzen has taken both forms of the SAT; the old paper version, and the new online BlueBook version.

“The paper SAT was longer and harder,” Lorentzen states. “The digital one, the English section, was shorter and I thought it was easier online. I would take online [test] because it is easier and it was more time efficient.”

You are required to bring a charged chrome book, a pencil and a calculator. Students are allowed to use home computers, but BlueBook app must be downloaded on the device before the testing day. If phones are brought into the testing room, they are to be shut off and handed to the teacher. If you are caught with any devices that aren’t allowed during the test, your test will be voided and you could possibly be prevented from taking it in the future.

Bluebook states that it takes around 2-3 weeks for the scores to return.
