On March 26, select students from the class of 2026 were inducted as members of the National Honor Society. The ceremony was held at 6:30 p.m. inside the JFKMHS auditorium.
With the selection processes being very detailed, 71 students were picked to represent the JFK NHS chapter. Being almost double the number from last year, this group is one of the largest in JFK NHS history.
After two days of practice, the juniors and seniors put together a beautiful ceremony. Seniors lined up in the auditorium’s aisles, holding candles, while warmly welcoming the new members.
The ceremony included many memorable moments including speeches from Dr. Parry, Dr. Massimino, President Umair Iqbal, Vice President Jewelle Samuel, Secretary Rima Khan and Treasurer Fabeha Zaman.
Saying Hello to the Incoming Members
With Mrs. Kurowsky’s high hopes for the new members and the seniors leaving, the new inductees have very big shoes to fill.
“I felt so relieved when the NHS members called my name,” Priyanka Bist, a junior states. “That day everyone was very nervous about getting in. Mine and my friends’ stomachs were turning in Calc. I’m so grateful to be a part of this. I want to say thank you to the seniors for being great role models, and I’m gonna miss you guys.”

Ms. Kurowsky has always tried her best to make NHS one of the best clubs at JFK. She gives her students many opportunities to portray the four pillars of character, leadership, scholarship, and service. With the 2025-2026 charter being one of her biggest groups, there’s no doubt Ms. Kurowsky will rise to the occasion.
“I’m very excited,” Ms. Kurowsky states. “With so many members, we are going to be able to do well at a lot of events, fundraise a lot of money, and get the school involved. For the new members, please remember that you are now the role models of the school and character and your integrity is very important.”
Saying Goodbye to the Seniors
The ceremony not only highlighted the incoming students, but also showcased the leaving members. With all the seniors seated on stage, Prem Parikh and Carlene Gruskowski announced the class of 2025’s future college plans. Many members chose to be in state, but some have planned to travel to colleges such as NYU, Harvard, Northeastern and University of Melbourne.
Umair Iqbal, the 2025 president of NHS, enjoyed the charitable opportunities NHS offers.
“I’m happy that I got to spend time with the people there and I’m glad we were able to do many events together like the Garba, sandwich making, and more, making memories and giving back to the community,” Iqbal states.
JFKMHS’ National Honor Society represents the best of the best and with that, the 2025-2026 inductees stepped up to highlight the four pillars of leadership, service, scholarship, and character. The seniors wish the new members the best of luck, and feel confident in the new members’ abilities.
